Promotion of Steam and Technical Project Director

We’re delighted to announce the promotion of Marc Millar to the position of Steam and Technical Project Director — a well-deserved milestone that recognises his continued development, leadership and contribution to the business throughout the past 18 years.

Marc joined James Ramsay as an apprentice heating engineer and quickly demonstrated both technical strength and a commitment to learning. After qualifying as a tradesman, he progressed into project management, where his capabilities and drive saw him move from managing smaller installations to delivering large-scale, complex and technically demanding projects. His success in this area led to his appointment as Steam and Technical Project Manager, a role in which he excelled and continued to develop specialist knowledge in high-pressure steam systems and technical engineering environments.

Alongside delivering major technical projects, Marc has increasingly taken on broader responsibilities within the business — providing technical training, mentoring colleagues, supporting appraisals, and playing a key role in wider operational management. He has built and managed his own client portfolio, strengthening relationships through callouts, site visits, pricing and project delivery.

Gary Shepherd, Managing Director, said: “Marc’s appointment strengthens our long-term commitment to investing in talent, technical excellence and customer service, and enhances our ability to support clients with complex steam and engineering projects.

“This is a proud moment for me personally, having worked closely with Marc throughout his journey, and an even prouder moment for Marc himself, who has risen to every challenge along the way. It’s also a proud moment for the company. Marc’s journey reflects what we stand for — recognising hard work, encouraging development, and rewarding success. It shows that with commitment, consistency, and a drive to improve daily — as a person, engineer, colleague, friend, manager, and now director — progression is always within reach.

In his new role as Steam and Technical Project Director, Marc will take full ownership of building and directing a dedicated steam team within the business. He will oversee all steam-related operations from major projects and boiler inspections to repairs and reactive works. Marc will also focus on advancing our specialist welding capabilities, maintaining exceptional technical standards, and supporting the team with steam expertise across the wider organisation.
