We completed a major boiler replacement project at Princes Food Group’s historic manufacturing site in Govan, Glasgow, installing a modern steam generation system to support its soft-drinks production operations.
The project involved removing three ageing boilers and replacing them with a new Cochran ST23 steam boiler. Alongside the installation, we designed and fabricated a bespoke hot well tank, delivering a tailored solution to meet the requirements of the site.
The project demonstrates our experience in delivering specialist boiler and steam engineering solutions within complex, live industrial environments, combining technical expertise, in-house fabrication and careful project coordination.
The Challenge
Replacing existing boiler infrastructure within an established manufacturing facility presents a number of technical and logistical challenges. At Princes Food Group’s historic Govan site, three boilers had reached the end of their operational life and required replacement with a modern system capable of supporting the demands of the manufacturing process.
The age and layout of the site added complexity to the project, particularly around the safe removal of the existing equipment and the installation of the new boiler. Careful planning and coordination were essential to manage the removal and movement of large items of equipment, while ensuring the work was carried out safely and efficiently.
The priority was to deliver an upgraded steam generation system that would improve efficiency and environmental performance, while providing a dependable solution for the site’s ongoing manufacturing operations.
Our Solution
We undertook the removal of the three obsolete boilers, associated equipment and flues, before installing a new Cochran ST23 steam boiler.
The removal works required a specialist lift and shift operation, delivered with support from our partners Forsyth of Denny and Zenith SAS. A telehandler was also brought to site and operated by our own trained staff to support the safe and effective movement of equipment within the facility.
Alongside the boiler installation, our team designed and fabricated a new hot well tank, providing a bespoke solution tailored to the requirements of the system. The project also incorporated new boiler pipework, with a strong focus on installation quality and attention to detail.
