Reinforcing our company’s commitment to reducing our environmental impact and supporting the transition to a lower-carbon future, we’ve published our latest Carbon Reduction Plan.
Released to coincide with Net Zero Week 2026, the report marks our third year of formal carbon reporting and outlines both the progress made to date and the practical steps we’re taking to further improve our environmental performance.
As a leading engineering and mechanical services contractor, we recognise the important role the industry must play in reducing emissions while continuing to deliver essential infrastructure and services for clients across the UK.
The latest Carbon Reduction Plan highlights improvements in operational efficiency, including a reduction in electricity consumption compared with the company’s benchmark year, while emissions per employee have reduced from 5.8 tCO2e to 5.0 tCO2e despite continued business growth.
The report also sets out several significant investments planned at our Glasgow headquarters, including the installation of a roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system, additional electric vehicle charging infrastructure, battery storage technology and a new building management system (BMS). Together, these initiatives will help reduce reliance on grid electricity, improve energy monitoring and support further carbon reduction opportunities across the business.
Ian Mathieson, Business Director at James Ramsay, said: “Publishing our third Carbon Reduction Plan demonstrates our long-term commitment to understanding and reducing the environmental impact of our operations. Sustainability is becoming increasingly important to our clients, our people and the sectors we support, and we believe it is essential that we continue to take meaningful action as a business.
“This year’s report outlines several important investments that will help us reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency across our operations. While we recognise there is still work to do, we are focused on delivering practical improvements that create measurable results.”
The publication of our Carbon Reduction Plan represents an important milestone in our wider sustainability journey. Later this year, we will also publish our first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, providing a broader overview of our approach to responsible business practices and detailing the progress made through a range of carbon reduction and sustainability initiatives.
The ESG Report will include evidence of implemented projects, performance data and measurable outcomes, helping to demonstrate how the business is turning commitments into tangible action.
As the engineering sector continues to play a critical role in supporting decarbonisation, James Ramsay remains committed to investing in solutions that improve environmental performance while delivering value for clients, employees and stakeholders.
